Rambles for Everyone!

Weekend Rambles

There is a walk on the third Saturday of every month from May until November. Weekend walks are more challenging than the Walking Wednesdays. Some of the places we visit on our weekend adventures include...

  • Roaring Plains
  • Dolly Sods
  • Coopers Rock State Forest
  • Canaan Valley

These walks are more strenuous, on rougher trails and usually require five to six hours of walking. They are rated intermediate to challenging.

New for the 2008 season are the back-to-back Saturday and Sunday walks which may be walked as separate day walks or combined for a weekend of guided adventure. Go to our Weekend Walks page, from the menu on the left, for more details and suggestions for convenient places to stay.

The cost for each day is $25.00 and a complimentary lunch is included.

Walking Wednesdays

As a treat, all our rambles include a complimentary lunch... complete with cloth napkins! We offer three Wednesday walks in 2008. These are true 'gentle adventures.' These are easy walks on level surfaces within an easy walks on level surfaces within an hour's drive of Bridgeport, WV.

This year we will visit Arden and walk along the banks of the Tygart Valley River, the North Bend State Park Rail Trail and the Caperton Rail Trail near Prickett's Fort.

The cost is $17.50 and a complimentary lunch is included.

Gentle Adventure Walks Rating System

Easy: a Walk in the Park.

These walks are along level, smooth trails that have a wide and well compacted surface. All walks require proper footwear, but an easy walk can be done in sturdy athletic shoes.

Intermediate: a Demanding but Gentle Adventure.

An intermediate walk is on dirt trails with generally well compacted surfaces but with the occasional rocky and uneven surface to negotiate. The intermediate trails will take us up and over hills and now and again across a creek. A sturdy walking shoe or boot is needed.

Challenging: You May Need to Push Yourself.

A difficult trail is rocky and uneven for much of its length. There are often steep sections which may require you to use your hands and there is almost always a water crossing on a difficult trail. Heavy walking shoes or boots are needed on these trails and sometimes sandals are needed to cross a creek. Walking sticks are a good option.
